Default ANOTHER brake "buzzing" question...

So I recently swapped my front brake rotor for the Ness Big Brake 15" rotor, and new pads since its a new rotor.
Haven't finished bed in/break in yet but I notice A LOT of buzzing from the rotor while riding.
I KNOW that the rotors with holes/perfs will buzz, but usually only while braking. Mine is buzzing all the time, just more so while braking.

Do you think it's just because I'm still bedding the pads to the rotors?
Or maybe the holes on the Ness rotor are sharper on the edges and are catching the pads a little more?
Or because there are more holes in the Ness rotor than in the HD rotor?

Or is my OCD asking up again?

It could be all of the above. Including the OCD thing. Can't help you with that, but I would call Ness and see what they have to say about it.
Maybe someone here has installed that rotor and can shed some light on it.

What pads? I switched to lyndall extreme pads when I swapped to polished rotors and haven't heard the cricket sound since. Nothing to be concern of as it is typical of the stock setup to make that noise. If you ran a sintered pad that may be why.

Stock HD pads for my stock calipers....I was going to use Lyndall or EBC pads but I had a fresh set of stock pads on hand.

Swap pads is the only logical answer at this point or deal with the noise. It never bothered me.

Maybe I'll swap pads.

The only reason I question this is because I hear it now when I'm NOT braking, before I only heard when I applied the brakes.

Thanks for your replies...

If its making noise when you're not on the brakes, I'd think the pads were dragging on the rotor. Maybe the pistons aren't retracting enough in the caliper? If you jack the front end up and spin the wheel, does it feel like its dragging?

Have you tried draggin a pair of calipers or mics across the new and old rotor to see if there is a difference in thickness? Maybe the Ness rotor is a tid bit thicker maybe which would cause the slight drag until they wear a bit.

Off topic a lilttle, but how is the stopping power in comparison to the stock rotor? I'm looking at picking up this rotor when it's time for brakes as well.

Good idea...took several measurements. the Ness rotor is slightly thicker - approx. a hundredth, or about .25 mm.

After going out and putting another few miles on these brakes I think the sound has decreased somewhat. I still get the usual feedback while braking but not as much at other times.
I think.

Of course the at first it feels pretty weak, but with each mile it feels better and after the last ride I took I'm really finally starting to notice an improvement.
Its not real a dramatic change from stock, but its real solid, 2 finger braking and getting better.

I have the Ness rotor, and OEM HD caliper and pads. It buzzed even when off the brakes for the first couple of thousand kilometers (say 1500 or so of your quaint 'miles'), then gradually settled down. Still buzzes when applying the brakes, though less than before.

All that is fairly normal with drilled discs (the sharp edges on the holes gradually smooth down and buzz less), and it's worse with floating discs - they aren't vibration-damped by being solidly mounted to the wheel so can 'ring' like one of those annoying triangle things I had to play in Band because, well, let's just say I'm no Kenny G...

Another thing I've noticed is that it chatters a bit when wet, just as I come to a stop. Again, that can be a thing with floating discs.

Thes things can be improved with brake shoe changes. I'll give to EBC HH's or maybe Lyndall Golds a go at the next change.
