Default Just bought 'Customized' Superglide

Saturday I traded my 97 883 sportster with a 1200 kit in on this 2000 Dyna Superglide. It has lots of extras on it, mostly kuryakyn from what I can see. So Ill start off with saying it may have been crashed before, reasons being... Complete custom paint (was told worth $3k) wide glide front end, nice big headlight not sure what model, bars with internal wiring, 21" front wheel with twisted spokes, front end is pretty much all replaced, along with all tins. Has softail tank and bobbed rear fender. Still has the mag rear wheel, that is probably the first thing im going to replace because it drives me absolutely crazy. Mainly posting this for your thoughts and constructive criticism. Ive had the bike 2 days and my gas gauge in the tank is pegged on empty but the tank was never empty at any point, and my forks are weeping out of the caps on top, not the bolt but the cap that threads into the fork tube. From what im seeing online the fork problem seems 'fairly' common probably just needs new rubber seals, As for the gas gauge I havent looked into that yet. If anyone has any experience with any of this I would greatly appreciate your comments.

I like it. Very unique. Just needs a little TLC, as you have said.

Not familiar with 2000s. Gotta have a fuel sender in the tank. Also check wiring to the gauge.

Looks pretty good. Headlight looks like a HeadWinds model.

Gas gauge really isn't worth fixing. My suggestion is to fill the tank and reset the trip odometer. Then ride it until it runs out of gas, quickly switch to reserve while noting the mileage on the trip odometer (hopefully in a populated area in case reserve doesn't work.) You'll likely be around 150 miles so you then know to gas up and reset the trip each time. I have a working gas gauge but have never really checked or trusted it.

The only thing I'd change right away is a smaller sissy bar pad since the one on it looks huge.

The po has got you a nice start, I'd slam it and put on a solo seat and ditch the sissy bar.

Before I did anything else I'd have a look at the cam tensioners and inner cam bearings. Everything else comes after that.

Looks like a mildly tricked wide glide not a superglide. Either way nice. Nowmake it your own and ride.

If there's any doubt, the serial number should tell you what model it started as. The entire front end looks aftermarket; good luck finding fork seals; I'd order two sets if you do...could start by measuring tubes with a caliper ie: 41mm was the FLH/Wide Glide tube diameter until very recently (all are 49mm now, AFAIK). Good looking bike; enjoy!

Welcome to the forum from PA.
I think it's a great looking bike. Now you have a few good suggestions on what to look for.
If you get stuck on something or have questions you'll be sure to get help here.
And I gave up trying to use the fuel gauge on mine since it's so badly calibrated. The trip meter is probably the best way to go. And you should have a reserve on the fuel petcock as a backup.

Most likely the wiper arm on the fuel quantity sending unit is broke. If you are lucky, the wiper is not broken but it is no longer in contact with the variable resistor and can be adjusted to work again, but don't hold your breath
