You are correct the reservoir gives extra travel because the piston that separates the nitrogen from the oil is relocated from the shock body to the res. The only adjustment on this set is the preload.
While at Sturgis I dropped by the Ohlins tent and the guys checked the setup and ended up swapping out the springs for a stiffer set for free.
You will have to give Howard a call I don't recall what I paid and prices may have changed since I got them last summer. He gives a healthy discount to forum members.
