Default Wire routing question

Hi all,

Couple of quick questions for you; bike is a 2014 Dyna Street Bob FXDB

1. I received my canbus power adapter so that I can finally wire the fan switch for my oil cooler. The wire for the switch is 16 gage, I will need to extend it for routing to the adapter connector. I only have 18 gage wire in the house, can I use this for my extension or will I need to get 16 gage?

2. I will need to route the wire from the Oil cooler (jagg low mount) which is located up low down on the front of the frame to the canbus connector behind the left cover below the seat. Any thoughts on best routes to take? I don't want to remove the gas tank but could certainly loosen and lift it.

Thanks as always!

First, never use a smaller gauge wire than what the equipment comes with, manufacturers use the smallest gauge possible, if you need to extend you should actually go 1 size larger to compensate for voltage drop.
As for routing, I ran everything down the main frame tube along with all the wires to the handle bars. You can fish it down with a fiberglass rod so you don't damage anything, otherwise it should be possible and quite a bit easier to run along the outside of that same frame beam, you should see other wires routed there as well. A couple zip ties will keep it neat, just not a fan of running individual conductors somewhat exposed like that.
You could try some small split wire loom as well in that same space if there is not one already there.

Thanks! Off to autozone I go I suppose. Hoping that since all this does is power a small cooling fan that I would be ok!

When you say main tube, do you mean route up the front part of the frame and into the neck where the turn wires come through?

Yes, that is a wide open tube except for the wires to the bars, which should be in a rubbery type conduit
