I'm with you on doing it yourself. VHT wrinkle paint is very easy to use. It matches the factory wrinkle paint pretty well.

I painted most of my chrome parts with it. Some parts I took off the bike some parts I left on and just taped around and covered the bike. I did the fork lowers, rear strut covers, AC cover and derby cover. You can scuff the parts down with 220 grit paper and finish them with 600, wipe down with a prep paint cleaner. Just make sure your at room temp when painting. Only used 2 cans so far. Total cost 15$.

That looks great. I have been wondering how the wrinkle paint would look on the forks. Any chance you could post a pic of your whole bike from the side?

Dang, that wrinkle looks sharp. I've used the VHT on some other parts too. It seems to hold up well to the elements.

Harley sells their wrinkle paint in spray cans as well.

Make sure you get decent quality stuff if you are going to do it yourself. Mostly worried about the heat on engine parts.
Basically you need to decide how much personal time you have to be working on it vs cost of having someone else do it.
Have you also thought of going to an Indy shop? Plenty of companies make black stuff and their labor is usually cheaper than the stealership.

Bro for all the blacked out bikes you think there are there are probably 5 x as many chrome ones. Go some place where there are a ton of bikes in one place and you'll see for your self.

One is to spend the cash and purchase wrinkle black engine components from HD. That is going to cost a **** load. Option two is to take off the chrome pieces and have them powder coated. There are parts that cannot remove due to lack of facilities and tools to do so. Also the nearest powder coating guru costs a **** load. Option three is to take off some of the chrome parts and rattle can them. I like to do my own work on my bikes; I always have done my own work. Option three is the way I am leaning. I did some research on how to paint onto chrome but did not seem to come up with ant good answer. What are the best ways to go about it with rattle cans? How did you prep the chrome and what did you use? Thanks.
.... and I am figuring how I can put more chrome on mine.... Ain't the world grand!
