Default Painting headlight

Just curious if anyone here has painted your headlight, and if so what paint did you use? I have a 2010 fat Bob and I am wanting to paint the head light and triple trees. Wanting to see if I should have them painted at a shop, or is there a good paint out there I can use and paint them myself?

Really you can do a fine job with most any paints. I did my trees, lowers & even the wheels with epoxy primer followed by House of Kolors black base & clear coat. What's much more important than the paint used, is the prep work. Prepping chrome of course requires a bit more effort. Sandblasting is ideal, but if that's not available, hand sanding will work too providing you make an effort to scuff up the chrome really well. I would start scuffing it with 220 wet dry sandpaper, followed by 400 grit wet dry. Just be sure you are very thorough, and there are no shiny spots left. Then you can go ahead and prime and paint. You could even use spray cans of Rustoleum and do a fine job that'll hold up for a long time. As long as the surfaces are prepped properly.

I just did my fork lowers and triple trees with VHT chassis and roll bar paint. It is an epoxy and doesn't require primer. It was easy to use and came out great. So far it seems pretty durable. As said above just make sure you scuff everything very well.

Here are my results.

Another option alot of members use = Plasti Dip. This way, if you don't like it, peel it off.

I'm actually on coat # 2 on my FB headlight as we speak. I chose the PlastiDip option. I''ve done the horn (cowbell) and the sissy bar so far. Outstanding results, not sure about durability yet.
I treated the parts with ArmorAll and it looks great.

Just don't bungee anything to the sissy bar. I did so a couple years ago when putting a jacket on the bar. That bar looked terrible after a two hour ride. The bungee & jacket rubbed off a lot of the Plasti-Dip. Never used that product again.

Looks gray under the flourescent, but it's very black.
Six coats.

Black lights matter...

I'll post another when I get it put back on.
