Didn't see this comment till just now.
It's pretty good the way it is, I guess I'd make the fold over top just a tad wider for an easier fit.
It's 8oz Veg-tan, the side are 4pcs, 2- long bottom, 2-top, I wet formed the sides just using a 1x4 pine board and a couple big hose clamps,, then just added one layer of the 8oz scrap to form the top side sections (same mold) so they'd overlap and dropped'm to cover about 3/4". It's kind of snug,, rain proof,, but snug, I gotta wiggle the sides to get it to drop. The "body" of it's all one piece, glued and saddle stitch.
Stain (did it like that on purpose), then a Bee's wax an Sno-seal 50/50 mix with heat to soak it in, it's rigid and water proof.

I have seen a lot of nice looking bags but I want one a bit larger than what I have seen so far. I guess I will make my own.
I'm glad that you found this thread helpful, I did too.
Post a photo here once you get them on, if you don't mind.

No worries! Will do on the pic. I just needed something small enough for my wallet, phone (if I take it), and garage door opener. I picked up a small tool bag from Fox Creek last week, but don't really like the size of it on the front. I'll strap it to my son's bike. He's 8 and will get a kick out of that.

I bought a couple of matching tool bags meant for the forks but I'm putting them on the fender struts. I got the first one and don't like the size of it on the forks but it looked good on the strut. I didn't want big saddle bags, just a little extra storage.

I know this isn't a beloved Dyna, but the shock layout is the same. Fabbing up some brackets, using the top shock mounts, I know a guy that used the fork bags from Cycle Gear. Did this on the cheap. Works fairly well for smaller items.

Just throwing this out as an alternative folks!

That is exactly what I referred to in reply #27, the one before yours.
On the Dyna, there is a space between the fender strut and the fender so you can attach it right to the strut.
