I do nothing different than yall do...I press the button after a ride to check the oil temp and say...oh ****! My oil is running hot!
I do the same. Usually it runs 230-250F and I say the same. . So far it is running well after 6 months.

But will let the 3rd warranty replacement stay unused in its plastic on the shelf due to all the thieves wanting an easy quick pickin while your parked doing your thing down here. What a friken zoo it's become down here!
Where at in particular Dino? I have visited my brother in law in Tampa a couple of times in the past few years and for sure there are a lot of people down there. However the roads make it a whole lot pleasurable to ride compared to ours here in Okie-homer.

I had an HD Oil temp Dipstick about 6 months and heat from the exhaust melted it. So much for that item.

the lcd dipsticks are terrible. mine was basically DOA. i have no idea why there is no analog gauge available from hd. why do we need to pay JES $160 for a gauge that make changing the oil harder?

why is it that JES managed to do, independently, what the MoCo could not do?

i like my power vision but i don't want it on my bike all the time (sooner or later, i'll slip up and a thief will run off with it)

i want a decent temp gauge. has anyone fitted an touring temp guage to their bars?

update: looks like it's possible with HD parts 70900283 , 26165-07, and some sort of mount.

this does not hold water. if your engine is cooking the oil to the point of viscosity breakdown, you'll be changing the oil more frequently or tearing apart your engine. your approach says, "ride it and ignore temps until something breaks." unacceptable. criminal negligence

I use it from time to time, if it's an exceptionally hot day & I'm expecting to be traffic, something like that. It's good enough to give me an idea of what's going on.

I've had two digital gauges from Harley and the first one is still going strong at nearly 8 years and the 2nd is over 4 yrs old, both on Softails. And I've also had several analog Harley dipsticks on Softails and not had problems. I think the dynamic location is causing some of y'alls issues. You could consider running a sensor on your oil cooler adapter plates, and a simple lcd or led display on the bars or fairings...

that's exactly what i came up with above. the hd parts are crude. there must be a better bet out there using the sensor/sender method

I purchased one. I don't how accurate the temps were. As it got older I didn't trust the oil level. It took a **** way to soon & into the trash can it went. You need to ask your self, self do your really want to know how hot your oil gets? lol.
