Everything I've seen in here is they are not either good or reliable.

What do you guys recommend? I know that many of the tuners (mine included) measure head temp but is that as reliable as oil temp when riding in hot weather?

I've got one. I only have half a season on it but find it accurate as to oil level and otherwise functional. I know this, as well as my oil pressure gauge, isn't lab quality stuff but I've recently switched to synthetic oil and a permanent filter and find it educational, not to mention reassuring, to see the differences that result with my own eyes.

So as not to hang the issue, temp and pressures definitely show a significant drop with SYN Oil and a permanent filter.

I monitored engine and head temperatures with the Power Vision both before and after installing my Jagg oil cooler and there was a nice reduction in both of those temperatures but the actual temperature of the oil is a bit of a mystery, I've tried to do everything I can to keep the temperature down: proper tuning (fuel and spark) with the PV, oil cooler, tank lift, permanent oil filter, venting hot crankcase gasses to atmosphere, no baffles and TTI's in the exhaust, 10W-60 full synthetic oil.

If you want the actual oil temperature and avoid the cheese digital dipstick JES Custom does have an analog setup that fits '99 through current Dyna models, the black faced gauges look pretty nice: http://www.jescustomaccents.com/cate...?categoryId=37

How does the PV measure engine and head temps? I have the temp function that displays front head temp. Is there another sensor somewhere?

Thanks that looks great! Yes my challenge with the head temp was that even after my oil cooler was installed with fan running I was getting some pretty high engine head readings and nobody could really correlate the temps to oil son had no idea whether or not I had an actual problem. Coupled of course with weather in the 100+ had me thinking that I really just need to know what my oil temp is.

I've been running the JES Custom Accents unit for four years/45,000km or more and it works great. They used to be oil-filled but now look like they only do air-filled. Very easy to read with a quick glance.
