Default 2006 Dyna Woes

Hey there, been a lurker on the forums for years, but mainly stepped over to the chopper/vintage bike world for years. Just picked up an 06 a couple weeks ago as my introduction to the TC and FI world. So after my purchase I read all the horror stories on the primary bearing and tranny pins. Go figure, id buy a bastard year. Anyway, my question is this, should I feel comfortable riding the bike, or is tear down in order? The bike has 36k on the odo, it is in super condition and has been well maintained as far as I can tell. The 2 recall items have be addressed according to HD. Would you worry about the bearing or assume its been addressed since it made it to 36k? Long winded I know, but making the change from a shovel to this is a whole different world and I just want something the wife and I can travel on mostly worry free.

I was hoping to hear that. Im usually one of those "fix it till its broke" guys, but am trying to change that with the purchase of this bike.

If you're worried about it, purchasing an extended warranty can be a viable option. Covers repairs, towing, and accommodations if repairs are needed during a trip.

Put Harley's mistakes back on Harley.

If you do it yourself it's easy. There are two recommended fixes.

The s&s race
Or
The baker inner primary bearing

I would just ride it, I would imagine it has been addressed by now. Both my inner primary and rotor failed between 15-18k miles. Not sure about the trans, mine has been flawless and shifts so much nicer than my Street Glide did.

You're not putting it back on Harley, most extended warranties are through third parties and are just an additional profit center for the dealers.

06 had the IPB problem, and the stator screws. Both are easy and cheap fixes. They may not even break. I bought mine a few years ago and instantly regretted my purchase because of the horror stories on the forum. I made the choice of buying the baker bearing and putting red loc-tite on the stator bolts when I was doing the bearing switch. Cheap, easy to do and it's been the perfect bike since then.
06's are a great year for a Dyna. You get the 6 speed, lower temp TC 88, fuel injection, and the hydraulic cam tensioners. I would not hesitate to buy another 2006 if mine got wrecked or stollen.
I would either "fix" the problem or stay off the forums or else you'll drive yourself crazy with all the issues that your bike probably doesn't have.
If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask. Lots of really experienced dudes on here that will be glad to walk you through it.
Machines are machines. They aren't perfect. Even the best engineered bike will break at some point. Just get out and ride it, take care of it and you'll fall in love with it like all of us have.

That's one reason I specifically chose Harley's warranty.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Im guessing it had been taken care of by now considering that most of the failures that I read about were under the 20k mark. With the weather we are having here it doesnt allow for much riding, or any outside activity so I drive myself crazy online. Id be money ahead to cut the internet out at my house. Between the wifes shopping, and my "hobbies" it gets out of hand.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.....

If you took seriously all of the stuff you read on these forums about the supposed problems that read about, you wouldn't ride a motorcycle.
If all of the claims were true, there wouldn't be a single Harley out there running well enough to ride.

Ride your motorcycle....enjoy yourself.
