Ok, so here is an idea. Pick up the kit from your friend (free). From dealer, pick up Front Docking Points (narrower then the ones in kit from friend) PN-53697-06 (2), Front Bolt PN-4203 (2), Inner Fender Mount Bracket PN-60181-09 (2) and Recess Covers PN-47531-06 (use the install sheet via the HD link in your first post). This path seems like it would be cheaper then the $120 you'd spend getting both 53968-06C and 53797-09 to accomplish the same setup.

Okay I can see them now that I'm on my PC instead of my phone. Just don't know if I would be brave enough for that! LOL

This sounds like a good plan for my frugal (read:cheap) behind!

Okay so I got the kit from my buddy and it isn't quite the same as what I listed. It's basically the 4 docking points and 4 bolts. Unfortunately I can't really post it right now.
I did a little research and I think I can use hollow bolts or rod to mount the turn signals. The turn signal stalks from HD are about $16 each and I won't have them there forever anyway since I plan on getting the Alloy Art strut mounted lights after I save some pennies. What I found is they should be 5/16" x 24. Wondering if someone can confirm this?
I'm wondering do I need that "strap" that comes in the full kit? Is there some reason a bolt won't still work like what is used on the turn signals?
Anyone see something that I'm missing here?
Edit to add: Do the turn signals plug into the sparto tail light on the fender or at the sides by the strut? I saw a diagram that showed them plugging in at the fender but that would just be too easy....

If you can locate a bolt with a passing hole for the wires and plan to bring them in from the inside fender side out to the lights, you'll need to find to thin nuts to use with it. One nut would be used to tighten the fender, strut, the blank-off plate and detach points together. And the other nut would be used to tighten the light housing on the bolt so it wouldn't flop around, pretty much what the acorn nut thing does on the HD kit. The item I am guessing you are calling a strap is where the HD bolt threads into, allowing for more clearance in the fender and eleminating the possible issues with wire damage from tire rub. Hope that helps.

Yes that is correct in what I'm calling the strap. I'm running a 160 rear tire currently so there is a ton of room on each side. I was thinking of using a half nut, or whatever the low profile nuts are called. I'll see if I can find an acorn style nut as well since I think it'll snug up better against the bullet housing. If I'm understanding you correctly I need to sandwich the detach points so they can't move around?

Any info on if the plug is at the strut or not?

Thanks for all your help on this!

Not sure exactly which tail your running. If it's the standard Dyna tail, the turn signs plug into the tail light on the fender. If you are running the Street Bob tail, the plugs should be under the seat if I remember correctly. Yes you need to sandwich the fender and hardware to keep the fender tight to the strut and not let the bolt rotate. I am sure you'll figure it out once your hands are on it. HD makes a plastic bar that is used with the strap piece that allows a safe place to run the wires. But if you get some of those little zip tie sticky squared used to zip tie wires to a surface, you could use this to secure the harness if needed.

Yes just the regular 2011 SB tail on mine.

I think I'll be able to get the Alloy Arts turn signals mid next month (maybe earlier) so I'm thinking I'm going to wait until I pick those up then mount everything up and "build" the plates.
