Default Routing clutch cable??

I have some Holey Rollers coming, and I've been bouncing around reading everyone's threads on installing bars. Some have said they routed the clutch cable another way. Is this necessary for easy operation or what? Sorry if it's been asked before.

Thanks...

One reason is for ease of operation, you don't want it binding or in the way of anything, especially when the bars are turned to full lock. Another reason is for appearance, so that it won't look out of place.

The third reason is that re-routing may allow you to reach further without needing to replace with a longer cable if you're putting on taller bars.
I think stock it routes down the left side of the frame then crosses under the engine. You can re-route across the front of the neck and down the right side of the frame for a more straight shot and get a few inches out of it.
For example, when I went 12" total rise I only needed to re-route the cable. It would not have reached the way it routes stock.
Once you get your new bars on, you will know if you need to re-route or get a longer cable. It should be pretty easy to see once you are there.

The factory tucks it through the frame and under the engine. I don't like it, it's in the way when I use my jack.

My clutch cable wore a good size hole in the case.
The way Harley has it under the engine, not good.
I just wrapped it with hose for chafing for now.
Didn't notice it till I opened the cam chest with the exhaust out the way .
Got to be allot of other unsuspecting dyna's wearing the case like that.

Before I left for work tonight I went out to the garage to have a look. I followed it all the way down and "under" the damn engine...seriously?! I will do a reroute when the bars get here. It makes your wonder if they do this crap on purpose...

I'm working on this reroute as well. I'm not sure if it'll get me anymore length though. I'm hoping so. I have a set of '16 street Bob bars I want to put on my '05 SG and this is the last thing to get done.

Hey folks, I know this is an aged thread, but, how did your routing turn out? Do any of you have ABS and did routing it up the right side cause any issues?
