Default Clutch Cable routing

How does everyone have their clutch cable routed with apes. I routed mine the same as my stock cable which is behind the top tree but the constant rubbing between the cable and the tree had rubbed a hole in the clear plastic covering on the cable and a nice bare spot on the tree. I'm going to have to replace the cable but when I swap it out I want to route it in way that prevents the same thing happening again.

it's hard to tell but do you have it going between the bottom of the bars and the top of the tree? i routed mine behind the bars and the trees. i also used the clamps on the down tube to prevent it from moving around.

I knew I should have posted a pic! I'll have to take one later but yes, it runs behind the bars and the top tree. I have both factory clamps holding it to the downtube but it's just rubbing on the backside of the top tree from turning the bars. I never thought anything of it because the stock clutch cable never had issues. I guess the plastic coating on the braided line is not as strong as the factory covering on the stock cable.

I'm going to have to take a better look at it later. I'm hoping it's just the covering and isn't doing damage to the braided part. At least that way I can ride a couple more times while we're actually having decent weather here in England and then swap it out over the winter.

have you thought about trying to put some shrink tube on it to prevent it from rubbing through. it will be cheaper then a new cable.

Yeah, I still have stock cables and they do not have this issue, as you say. I like the idea of the heat shrink for that area. Maybe replace the cable, so its fresh, and then heat shrink any area that rubs?
