Noticed a leak from the front of my 14' Street Bob. I inspected the oil filter and no evident leaks. The oil is coming from above the front motor mount and has gunked up the mount quite a bit. Leaves a small spot on the garage floor after riding but ceases overnight. Called the dealer and they said "ah just bring it in and give us yoir money" Thoughts?
Yup, just a guess, but someone did a sloppy job of changing the oil and it's just weeping down from not being cleaned up proper.
Perhaps some engine de-greaser like gunk and low pressure water,, I use a scrap bristle paintbrush to get down in there to clean tough to reach spots.
Brought my '15 LR in for its 5000 service last week, (the dealer threw in a VIP plan for free service for 3 years is why) and when I got home and put her on the jiffy, I noticed three drops of oil. My blood pressure immediatly spiked, while I got out a light and had a look. What I saw really pissed me off. There was oil all down the front of the bike from where the tech changed the oil filter and didn't wipe **** off the motor and mount.
I hit it with some S100 foaming bike cleaner and a hose and cleaned it off well. The next three days I inspected the deck, and the area around the filter and not another drop.
Just a case of a lack of giving a **** by the dealer tech. Or being very busy and not having time to wipe it down, if you feel the need to defend his actions (or lack of). I don't.
To add to Mchad's statement... I had the same issue when I had my 1000 break in service done. I find it odd that HD makes, and sells at every dealer, one of those fancy oil filter funnel trays to prevent this mess on the motor mount, and from sensor connections. Why the dealers don't use these, I don't know.
The mess on my bike ran all the way down the front, and along the bottom of the cases.
Like mentioned clean it up and keep an eye on that area. Having oil on your engine mount doesn't do the rubber parts any good, either.
My bike hasent had an oil change since September. I run Amsoil. Never leaked when i brought it home and the oil change seemed like it was done correctly. It is March and the bikes been leaking for around 2 weeks, from what i can see by the oil spots on the Garage floor. I am seriously worried that the seem of the crankcase is leaking, seems to be the only logical wxplenation from my inspection. Im going to jack it up, pull the front mount and see whats what. Anyone had this happen before? Crankcase ahouldnt be leaking on a motor with 16K miles... right?
