Default stripped bolt

so i put on my fork boots this weekend and a 15 min project turned into a 10 hour mission! first off...
10 mm will remove the caliper
and 45 star rachet for the trees
I tried with a 40 and stripped a bolt, then drilled it and used a easy out only to snap the easy out in the bolt!!! ahhhh! so this is what i did...
first take a can of PB blast and soak it... then go find a punch and POP IT once with a good wrap in the center of the bolt! This will stretch the threads a bit to allow the PB to soak in...
...... wait BE SURE YOU WRAP YOUR TANK, front fender, and any part of the fork you can in towels...
then pull out that grinder and put a line in the bolt.... take your time and put the chissel in the top part of the line and start hitting it in the off direction... take your time!!! it will come out! then just finish the install...
moral of the story... if you do not have the right tool for the job GO GET IT... or make it. USE A 45 star when taking off the forks... LOOKS GREAT now!!! very happy with the final result!

LOL !!! I had the exact same thing, only the bolt holding the sissy bar, it has an allen head and is rounded so I couldn't use anything to grab it. I tried an ease out, it too snapped in the screw. So I took a triangle file and tried to make some flats for a wrench to grab, no luck... As I sat there, the thought came to use a center punch and hammer to try to force the screw to back out.. And it did, Man I was happy.....

the other trick is using a cut off wheel or hacksaw to cut a line and use a impact drive that you whack with a hammer and get it out. however this only works if theres sumthing stickin out to cut. i had the sissy bolt do this and i cut the line and used a standard screw driver to get it out. im look to do fork boots soon i will definatly keep this in mind.

this is a very good point - these suckers are tight. not only do you need the correct size but it needs to be high quality as well (S-K, snapon, etc). I tried a crappy one at first - luckily I ruined the socket and not the bolts ....
