Default Fuel Consumption Question

Hi everyone, I just purchased my third Harley, an '09 Fat Bob with about 6500 miles on it. It came with VH 2/1 pipes. I wanted something louder so I got the VH short shots. I know there is a fuel pack. My question is will I get crappier fuel mileage with the short shots ? I didn't feel any loss in power. Also should I get the bike Dyna Tuned? Thanks in advance.

Getting it dyno tuned certainly wouldn't hurt, but not totally necessary. That's why you have the fuelpak tuner. Do you know which one you have? I assume the fuelpak 2. You should be able to get on their website and download a new map. Don't know about fuel mileage.

I am not quite sure which one it is, it is under my seat so I will either take the seat off and look or ask the Harley Tech who put on my pipes.

I had an 04 VRod, got maybe 115 miles with a 3 gallon tank. I believe my Fatbob is a 4.9 gallon tank and it goes through gas fairly quick.

The common problem is that when new exhaust goes on the throttle tends to get worked a little harder. I'd give it some time till the newness wears off. Check your plugs and go from there about a tune.

My experience so far. My 2011 FXDC came with Short Shots and I was getting 42 mpg no matter how I rode it. Late fall I installed Ness Super Sucker and a tune from Power Vision. My PV did not come with a tune installed to my bikes specs for some reason but I chose a tune close to what I have. Currently only getting 27 mpg and I can smell the richness in the exhaust. Bike runs like a raped ape however and will pull the front wheel in 3rd during hard acceleration!!!! I have yet to get a chance for a normal long ride to really check what my mileage is between winter and life, but hope to in the next few days.

When I put my big shots and vo2 on and tuned it with the fp3 I am getting about 34-38 MPG depending on how I ride it which is about normal what I understand.

I get 32 with my 2013 SB with power vision tuner and stage one. And I am not a agressive rider. Bike runs very well and very smooth all around.

If you have the earlier FP2 there's not much you can do as far as tuning goes other than try some different MAPs from V&H. If you have the FP3 there is a lot more adjustablity. It's geared more for the end user than for a dyno operator though, with that you might find it hard to find a dyno tuner that will work with it. I tuned 1 of them (FP3) for forum member Robbyville), the tuner worked well and gave me the features I needed to get the bike tuned, but it was not the most user friendly thing to work with on the dyno.

If yours has the FP2 on it you would be better off getting a differen ttuner like the TTS or the Power Vision adn getting it tuned.

Hey everyone. Thank you so much for your responses. The bike seems like it has more pep (I can hit 70 on the highway) without paying much attention.

The bike handles a little differently then when it had the V/H 2-1 pipes (lower grumble).

One of my friends told me last night it takes about 500 miles for everything to sync and kick in fuel wise.

Again thanks for the responses.
