Ok...help please. So I debated the whole stage 1 exhaust thing. Thinking I was being frugal and smart I went to an indy and had a K & N filter installed. Can't say I noticed much difference. I thought, well now I need to open the exhaust up...but decided I should do this through the HD dealer. Went and chatted with the owner of the dealership and he said that they have been installing the Screaming Eagle pipes with their own special refinements (cutting baffles I think) and the results have been good with sound and performance. The owner suggested air filter and download for top performance - but since I had air filter I only needed pipes and download.
So today the deed was done...but the mechanics kept insisting I needed a Screaming Eagle air filter for top results. I said no since I just had the K&N installed. The bike is louder...sounds good and throaty...what i wanted.
Tell me....what in your opinion is the best? Do I need the SE airfilter or are they trying to sell me something? Could they had "fudged" my download so that I am not at peak performance?
Thanks for enduring this message...appreciate your thoughts.
They are just trying to squeeze a buck out of your pocket. The k&n will work just fine if they tune your bike. sounds like you may want to look around for a good motorcycle mechanic in your area. your local dealer is a ********.

Did you just do the filter or did you change the backplate. If you didn't you are not getting the benefit of the air flow that filter can do.
I believe the filter was just changed. The back plate is still the original. What will I notice if I change the back plate....will it sound different or will I just notice better performance? Thanks for your help.

You have the exhaust but the air flow is the same. By changing the backplate you open the intake up to all it to get all of the air it wants.
You have the exhaust, you got the download, now let it breathe. And yes you should notice a difference.
