I think...No, I know the difference is because of the "I"

Within the same model, or across the entire Dyna line? Seats definitely don't. The attachement points on the frame changed in '04. They went from separate bent metal hoops for the front seat tab and rear tank tabs to the integrated tank/seat "barrel". The later style is much cleaner looking and required quite a bit less welding.

Besides that, there is also a pretty significant difference between the WG frame and front end than the rest of the Dynas. (oh, and fenders. And tank, I think. Maybe console. And wiring harness... Dammit, just consider the WG a unique bundle of parts. PITA!)

So is the 2004...made the change to 1" (front) in 2004 (except FXDWG), then to 25mm in 2008.

Definitely having a 04 or 05 can be difficult at times for buying parts. The most difficult thing is that it is almost impossible at times to find a used seat for my 05 on somewhere like craigslist. I have an 05 FXDCi which was the fuel injected super glide custom.

Might be worth trying a seat from any other dyna between 04-05. I was told the 99 WG used a different seat than the rest of the bikes. The LePera Silhouette I bought fits it just fine but isn't listed in the compatibility list.
