I am about to give up on any kind of windshield as all bikes that I have tried with windshields give me too much buffeting to the head which I can't stand. Rather get the full blast.
Anyone have or had a Windvest? I hear their design is supposed to cut down on buffeting but still see used ones for sale from time to time so I wonder how true that really is?
I have an 06 wideglide with street slammer bars, I looked at a lot of windshields, ended up with the 14 x 14 windvest and it suits me perfectly alot less wind pressure at high speed and no buffeting either. I do wear an open face helmet and there is no more lift. In fact I was going to use it for the highway only but I leave it on all the time now.
It really makes for a more comfortable highway ride for me...no more fighting the wind. You still get plenty of wind but not as much fatigue. As for buffeting, there is some for me..it moves my glasses a little more than without the windvest but it is not bad at all. Well worth it for me.
I've got about eighteen thousand miles on mine, take it off occaisionally and put it right back on. The shield has an inch of adjustment and you can reverse the handlebar clamps for another inch of adjustment plus the fore and aft adjustment by rotating the mounts on the handlebar gives you all you need to set up the shield to eleminate almost all buffeting. Adding a tank lift and a small bag at the base of the shield will make it almost perfect. I've made many five to eight hundred miles in a day, can't imagine trying that without the shield especially with the mini-apes. Take the time to get the adjustment set up right and you'll love it.
I am doing the windshield angle. I try 2" out at the bottom was just a little to much. Then I went back and try 1" now buffeting start around 90 mph. That alittle better on buffeting. I will try it on a long run this weekend.
Just for any of you who are interested, I have a windvest at home that came off of my 06 street bob and I am not going to use it, so if anyone is interested in it let me know.
