That thread appears to be discussing the COP (coil on plug) solution from Accel for the 2006+ bikes. Not sure what I'm supposed to glean from it with regard to a conventional remote coil setup. Maybe I'm missing something?
Well I am not sure which exact product the OP might be interested in, but the Thread does establish a good company reputation and testing of one of their products. If they take care of ion sensing and knock control with this product, I think simple connecting wires would be even easier to make right.
Accel has been in the performance ignition game for 50 years. Mostly a solid reputation in the car world. They know a thing or two about ignition, but the Harley ion-sense knock prevention method is unusual (in my experience). Generally, performance coil wire guys are shooting for minimum resistance without excessive electromagnetic issues. I believe the ion-sense relies heavily on a specific wire resistance to function correctly.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm an old-skool guy at heart. I mostly just work on new stuff when it breaks.
If I'm correct in my understanding of how the ion-sense works, it may be as simple as checking the resistance specs of the OE wires vs any prospective aftermarket replacement....if the data can be found.
The wires are free? What else were you going to do with the gift card? Get them, if they cause a problem either sale them cheap or pass them on to a brother.
