Sure you can put a 21 on the front.
You say a dealer told you that you can't? To me that is unbelievable! You should have asked him right there---- why not? I'd love to hear his answer on that question.......pg
i did ask them why and he said it was due to the fenders and the forks...??? the '07 does have different bolt pattern then the '06, but i would think i should only have to buy a different fender! i think he was wrong and i have gotten bad advice from them before. they told me that the night train 6"rizers and drag bars wouldn't work, but i had them do it anyway.... and it's looks great!!!
you don't even have to buy a different fender. just a tire with a shorter sidewall. people do this change on this forum every day. do you have laced rims now? if so, take your front wheel to a rim shop and have them buy a 21" x 2.15 40 spoke rim and longer spokes (any decent shop should be able to order the stuff hub in a hurry i fnot stock it). they can re-use your existing hub, and lace the new rim to that. buy a tire to fit a wideglide and you're off. if not, call american wire wheel and they will send you what you need...it won't be cheap (but if you are having bars added at the dealer, you might be able to afford it its about 900 bucks for your bike for the front rim. stop having the stealer work on your bike for asthetic stuff. repairs are okay, but there are cheaper alternatives topayingthose guys to tinker with your bike. for instance, the rims, you can easily change in and out on your own.
thanks!! i'm in no real hurry so i'll look a rim and tire combo! i was also told that the 21" doesn't track as good at speeds... any thoughts on that? how do i find out the tire size to compensate for the larger rim? sorry for all the question but first bike and i haven't found many sorces of good info other then here...
I ordered a 21" wheel off line that fit my bike with no problems... Had HD put a normal 21" tire on it and got it home and bolted it right on! Rides no different at all, far as that goes I can't even tell the difference unless I'm off looking at it! Fit right under the stock fender with still over an inch to spare. The only difference from your bike to mine is my bike is a 2005 but I guarantee you if you look in the right places you will find one that will bolt right on your bike.
sweet bike!! i show your bike to the guy i work with today cuz he has the same one... even color! he loves it, and it's your bike that got me thinking about the 21" rim again. i love the way it opens up the look of the frount end.
Or you can build it yourself as I have done. My machine is a 2003 but I laced up a Sportster hub and 21 inch Ankrondt aluminum rim and then it just bolted right in the forks. I did not have to touch the fender and the clearance is better with the 21 than it was with the 19........pg
