Default Converting to Switchback wheels

I have a 2008 Super Glide so it already has the newer 25mm axles. I am planning to convert to FLD Switchback wheels. The rear wheel should just bolt on as it as the same size.

The front will be much more of a challenge. At present I expect to change the mid glide trees to wide glide and have to play with the spacers some.

Research facts to date (eyeball accuracy with a tape measure!):

Rim Width, Tree Width, Width at Axle*
FXD: 5.5" 8.5" 6.5"

FLD: 7" 10" 8"

FXDF: 6.5" 10" 7.5"

* this is the width between the fork legs at the axle.

So it would seem that after going to FXDWG / FXDF trees I will 0.5" of space at the axle rather than the more usual 1". Can this be done? I think I may have to do some work to get the caliper to align but I run a sport bike caliper on a custom mount I made so I can probably work that out.

It would be great to hear from anyone who has done this.

I cannot get the measurements to line up in my post. I guess the spaces are getting stripped or the fixed width font is not so fixed width... apologies hopefully it can still be understood.

Nobody has done this? I did find one member by searching the archives but no one else?

It's understood

I think some of your measurements are a bit askew...

You can prove it to yourself and grab all the #s that you need by looking at a HD Microfiche Here and seeing same spacer part #s for the FLD and FXDF. Also the center spacer sleeve includes the "Touring" bikes.

What you'll probably find is that your FXD Left-slider has a different caliper mounting location (axially (side to side)) than than FLD (wide-glide). For sure it is different than the FXDF and without looking at a FLD slider to confirm, there would be no reason to be different than the FXDF. You can use caliper mounting spacers to move it inward.

Thanks for that link, most useful. I do expect to have to do some work to get the caliper to align. I've got a Tokico on there from a sport bike with an adapter that I fabricated so I can probably work that out one way or the other.
