The stock headlamp on my 99 is truly pathetic but I seldom ride at night so replacing it is fairly low on my list. I can't imagine doing any serious night rides with it, tho. Maybe in a well lit city?
I just got my LED turn signals in today. Question, will I need a regulator specifically for LEDs on my 1997?
Honestly not sure. I've heard you need a load equalizer for the TSM to function properly but I haven't tried it myself. Mine broke last fall and I rode a month or so with no flashers before I tore everything apart. I replaced the factory TSM with a Badlands Illuminator Pro III that is designed for LEDs. It works but I'll probably replace it eventually with something programmable.
Give it a go as long as the LEDs are rated for 12v (they probably are) You won't hurt anything.
I just bought the $15 H4 LED on Amazon, its here on Tuesday and for the price it just cant be beat. I'm sure I will see at night again when riding, the stock unit should not have been allowed..I think its that bad!
lets see it (the bulb and box) and post a link to the item. please
It does seem the same...damn, I take it you just didnt use it then. I could always make it into a small grow light for vegging plants, dont want to take a chance in it blowing fuses on the bike. Oh well, looks like I'm going to be still in the dark when riding at night until I can get the pricier model.
I've never seen anybody mention the Cibie or Hella H4 drop ins. Is that because they don't fit in our buckets or is the beam pattern inadequate for bikes? Or are they just unknown to riders?

not really worth the trouble or cost anymore. use to be, back when people were adding relays and such to headlights to beef them up with more power, now we are headed in the low power more light direction. us jeep wrangler folks used to fight over it...now people are going LED and led h4. i still refuse to on my jeep. gotta keep it crusty.

i tried to use it... the loud pop from my fuse box said don't keep trying.. i listened. YMMV

IIRC, the equalizer (Badlands) on my 97 was used to control the flashing speed of the TS. No equalizer = faster speed. My bike has been all LED if years now - brighter lights and less draw.
Although a different bike, my 97 Ducati I needed an equalizer for the front LED TS, but that was due to an integrated LED tailight. This bike is all LED now also...less draw on the battery. Charging system is not as robust on this bike.
