why ask why? did you read the op's post? you ALWAYS have a choice, don't you? who said anything about performance? you think you'll get a performance boost from current breed of SE street rated slip-ons? seriously? do you like apples? how do you like them apples?
My questions were directed at YOU. You state that the SEs are worthless but do not say why. I am asking you to elaborate on your opinion, to see if you actually have some useful facts on them. If someone wants quiet pipes, they in fact have very few choices. I have seen evidence over time that some pipes advertised to improve performance actually perform worse than stock, or the performance they give is increased horsepower above the rpm range that most seldom ever use at the sacrifice of lower and mid range torque that all use.

i know they were directed at me. i'm not going to elaborate on common knowledge with dyno and other engine ****. you will never catch me talking that dyno/performance crap. i just don't care about it. i'm willing to do a basic stage 1 and increase displacement... tune to smooth and eliminate decel pop. done... nothing else. we are not debating here.
the current SEs are no bueno... not a mystery or conspiracy. where is this quiet pipe stuff coming from?

That is why friends don't let friends buy V&H pipes. Great marketing & the dealers push them like crazy because the fat profit margins, but at end of the day just noise, looks & poor performance compared to other brands.

Those pre-cat style 2-2 with crossover tube head pipes were pretty solid performers when they weren't strangled with tiny mufflers. I'll bet 80% of the other choices out there actually hurt power. I KNOW mine do (I just don't care.).
