Default Discolored black supertrapp again...

Supertrapp warranty'd a replacement muffler shell for my ceramic black supermeg because it started to turn brown where the muffler and the collector joined. I installed it a couple of weeks ago, long after I got both an excellent PV tune from Fuelmoto, and a dyno touch-up of it. I specifically waited to install it until I had exhaust gas analysis on the dyno to make sure I wasn't running too rich or lean.

A couple weeks later the new shell is doing the same thing. I've heard from others with the black supertrapp that they hadn't had any "browning" of the pipe. It's not awful yet, but it's going to get ugly if it proceeds the same way the first shell did.

Everyone says the 110 runs hot, but that hot? I ordered an ir thermometer from Amazon to see the temp of the metal, but I don't know what that's going to buy me.

If supertrapp's coating just isn't that good anymore, I guess I can live with it, cause I really like the pipe. I picked up a can of Eastwood high temp satin black paint, maybe I'll spray it and see how it holds up.

But in the interest of science, if anyone with a supertrapp supermeg happens to have an IR thermometer and could take a snapshot of the muffler just past the collector (say two inches past the collector heat shield) after a ride and let me know the temp, that would help. I know it's a long shot, but it's worth a shot.

If you look at my sig photo, you can almost see it starting. Just forward of the bottom shock mount.

I'll take another look at mine, but I still don't think I have any of that problem. My bike runs hot as we all know. What kind of engine temps are you seeing on your PV? I think I may have an IR gage but am in the process of moving. If I find it I'll see what I can check.

That would be awesome Robby. Thank you. My suspicion is they changed coatings, as when I spoke to them last they said they send them out. You may not have the same. However I don't know for sure. Good idea with the PV - I didn't think of that. What temps do you see?

Prior to the oil cooler and the Wards fans I was running with engine temps regularly at 300-305 degrees in summer riding. Granted I wasn't riding a ton in the ambient heat but certainly more hours in traffic and general riding than what you've done in the few weeks since your replacement. With the fans and such my engine rarely gets over 280 and hovers mostly in the 260 range (of course I haven't ridden these last two weeks with the ambient temps at 109

Just to a different house, still in the desert. When we moved here last August we stayed in a place my mother owns for a few months (prior to her arrival), then once she got here we went to a seasonal place to make sure that the family proximity wouldn't be too oppressive for me (lol, I haven't lived near any of my family since 1992,so wasn't sure what to expect). So now that we have almost a year here under the belt we found a really nice home for at least the next year, the kid is enjoying a great backyard pool while I have to work!

If you buy my Bassani, I could get the new RR3 in black.

I have the same pipe, I'll check it with a thermal gun and report back. Have you called Super Trapp?

I appreciate it!

I didn't call them again this time, but the first time they said I probably had a bad tune, but they replaced it anyway. I expect they won't do it again, so I haven't called yet. I want to see some temp readings first. The IR thermometer arrives tomorrow so I'll take some snapshots.

Isn't that the same as what you already have? The RR3 is basically a raw stainless road rage II mega power.

I was just messing with MChad.

The RR3 is the latest, and greatest. Always nice to have the new one, but it only came in raw, but the SS is what interested me most.

The headpipes are the biggest difference that I see.
