Hello and Thanks to all who replied to my previous topics. Can i get inside the glass on my speedo to clean it? There are smudges inside the glass that must be there from manufacturing. Also there are particles from foam gasket inside which is deteriorating i think. My bike is FXDWG circa 2005. Speedo looks original. Thanks Again, Great Forum!
I started a thread on this topic several months ago and didn't get anywhere. On my gauge (99) the bezel is swaged/rolled over and captures the housing and glass. I considered chucking it up in the lathe and cutting the bezel in half but didn't want to risk breaking something just clean a little clouding from the glass. If you get further, I'm definitely interested in hearing about it.
I've cut open old vacuum motors (diaphragm and push rod) and such to repair those, but starting with a broken thing makes this kind of exploratory surgery easier. Nothing to lose.
I swapped in a new speedo on my FLD and agree with cggorman. the metal trim ring around the edge appears to "crimp" the whole assembly together. I'll take a look at the old speedo tonight and see if that truly seems to be the case.
I'm very confident I can get one apart without breaking anything, but putting it back together would likely require a custom billet bezel.
I got a speedo from my old FXD if you want to have a "crack" at it. PM me your address and I'll drop it in the mail. All for the advancement of mankind...

Does it work? I hate to "ruin" a perfectly good speedo. Even well used ones can be worth $100+ on eBay.

Yeah, it's perfect. But I thought they were married to a ECM and couldn't br installed in a different bike? Thanks for letting me know, if it has value, I could certainly use it towards my *cough* third dyno on the 25th...
