Time to replace the Michelin Scorcher tires on the super glide. I ride often, not super aggressive when I ride but do like to hit the twisties now and then. Mostly 1 up but at times 2 up with the wife. What have you guys found that works best to get good mileage, good traction in dry/wet and corners well.
But one caveat, be mindful of your tire pressures; Pirelli Night Dragons don't like it if you don't keep them at proper pressures; they have a more rounded profile and will wear hard if you ignore your tire pressure...
I'm running Michelin Commander II. I've got 4k miles on them and both front/rear still looking really good. Haven't had a chance to run them in the rain but they stick well when dry. I'm overall satisfied with them.
Tincup, tonebone and k-weaver thanks for your input, these 2 tires are on the short list. Crusader1, scorchers do work well dry/wet, the issues I've had with them are tire noise, low mileage life and tracking on the road.
Some other tires I've been looking at are the metzler me880, me888 and dunlop D401/D402. I've seen mixed reviews on these so I'm hoping someone has had experience with any of these other tires.
I am always trying to find a tire i like. For years i used and liked the 880's but they had to be the higher speed rating version, it seems like a different tire. Anyway, i stopped using the 880's years ago when they switched manufacture to brazil from germany. the tires were not the same after that and people i know started having trouble with them.
I tried night dragon but i didnt like the profile. When the tire was new it was very skecthy at high speed, i dont think it has a wide enough contact patch. It is probobly a great tire if you live on a canyon road as it turns in beutiful, but i could not get use to the instability at high speed.
currently i have a commander 2 on the rear and a schorcher on the front. I think the commander 2 is a good all around tire but it is pretty hard and when cold the tire breaks loose pretty easy.
Any tire with a center rain groove like the scorcher will grap hold of tar snakes and rain groves. With all that bs said, i might get another scrocher for the front when it is time because over all i think it is a good predictable tire
I had my search down to the Night Dragons, ME888, and the Commander II. I found a few articles / threads on the inter-web about Metzler quality dropping over the last few years. I personally can't say, but after read that some reported tire separation, I decided to drop them from the list. Once down to the dragons and commanders, I closely evaluated my riding style, and decided that I could sacrifice a little handling for increased millage. All reports I have read say that the dragons are top of the list for cornering, and the Commanders will give you the extra miles. I have, on several occasions pushed my Commanders pretty hard up here in the Northern Ca wine country twisties, and still haven't broken traction on my Commanders.
All that said, the ME888 apparently have a hard center compound, and a softer side compound for cornering. Maybe do a little research and see how you feel about them.

what you said about the metz 880's is absolutly true. We use to all use 880's and then all of a sudden they started having tread seperatins. Large chunks of tread just detaching for the tire. Pretty crappy.
