Default 5 vs. 6 speed

Is having the 6 speed that big a deal? Does it help hwy milage? Heard that you can't really use it until your going 70 mph or better.

I put my 06 low in 6th above 60 and you can see (and hear) the rpm's drop so I'd say it does save some gas. I drive the Interstate alot and do notice better gas mileage.

Ride a 6 speed next to a 5 speed. You hear the rpm's running some 300 rpm faster next to youon the road. The 5 speed is all ways in the pasting gear and the 6 speed can always down to 5 gear and run the same rpm's.

And it's kinda fun freaking people out when you downshift at 55.

Anything over 50 works for me. Highway cruise with plenty of pull for passing. Wouldn't trade it for anything less. Of course the 96inch sure adds to the equation.

I agree. I use mine at 65. Over the life of the bike, this saves a lot of wear on the motor. I would not buy a 5 speed bike now that the 6 speed's are available.

I had heard that that 6th gear is 1:1 just like 5th on my 04. They just slipped in an extra and evened them out. From what I am reading, that is not the case.

I don't shift into 6th unless I'm into the 60 - 65 MPH range (and too be honest most of the time its around 70 MPH). The engine will lug if my speed drops below 60 MPH. With that said what fendrix wrote is dead-on. I love downshifting into 5th and blasting by my brother on his '05 RK stuck in 5th. First time I did that he went straight to the dealer to look at the new 96" / 6 speeds.

I love the six speed i also shift about 65 into6th and under 60 it lugs the engine down to much but i like having it for the 70 pluse that i drive on the interstate. i find my self doing 80 before I know itand it still has plenty of power in 6th. have no problem passing anyone in 6th
