06 cam chain tensioner

The parts diagram is Harley. Look at what they say is stock on your bike. Magazines are wrong sometimes; what they say in that article is contrary to what I've found in my experience.

The sprockets for the pinion shaft and the rear cam have the same number of teeth regardless of whether it's a silent chain or a roller chain. So 07 parts will work.

Look at the diagrams I posted for you. Look at the profile of the teeth on the cams themselves (in the back). A roller chain uses a sprocket like a bicycle and a silent chain uses teeth like two gears meshing together (kinda). The roller chain won't work on those kind of teeth.
If you're gonna take it apart you can see what the cams are more likely than not with model numbers.
Me? I'm an Amish Jew, I'd change the shoes and leave the silent chains in there. I'm in the garage now with an 02 Dyna that has silent (link) chains and spring tensioners with Cyco shoes.

I was also also under the impression the sprockets on the cams were removable. I guess the only sprockets tha get removed are the outer ones on the rear cam and crank.
I guess i just need to hope hope it has roller chains. And if not, then replace the shoes. Is there any special tools needed to replace the shoes? Or do I have to replace the whole hydro tensioner assembly?
I'm cheap but not crazy. I'm for the roller chain set up if want as care free a system as you can get that isn't a gear drive. If there's anything I campaign for, it's NOT to buy the SE Conversion kit because of the link chain on the back of the cam plate. Link chains aren't as bad as all that but I'd be d*mned if I'd pay that for a conversion that didn't correct the whole problem.
Nope, no special tools to remove hydro shoes. But I would absolutely change the inner cam bearings for Torrington B148 models. For that you will need special tools from George's Garage or Heartland.

My stock lifters were in the bike until 92000 miles as well and they were fine...
I used a blind hole puller to remove the bearings and tapped the new bearings in with a seal installer. Flush to the case. Some use the old cams if they are swapping.
Again, you have the new set up, why are you even opening it up, is there anything wrong or not working right or sounding wrong?
