I'm planning to replace the tank on my 06 FXD. I want to move the speedo to the dash. I'm hoping to keep my costs down by reusing any parts that are transferable. Any recommendations on which console I should go to ? Wide glide ? Lowder? Street Bob?
Did this on an 01; went with Wide Glide tank 'cause it uses larger, more common speedo and switchgear. Some FLH style speedo/tach combos are nice, others are useless with too little sweep for usable speed/rpm ranges. Nice to have on/off up on console. Not all Street Bob's have on/off switch and used a smaller unique speedo...the Low Rider is also missing the on/off switch and uses gauges that are smaller than Street Bob; similar to fork mounted gauges. What about Fat Bob tank?
I did a complete overhaul last winter to my 06 fxdci. Started off just wanting to add hard bags and a fairing. Then I decided I wanted tunes so I added the hog tunes to the Memphis faring. Only after I bought it I realized I need to get the speedometer off the bars!! So I found a tank from an 08 Fatbob. Fit great except I needed to replace the speedometer cuz it was a different size from stock. So back to eBay for the console with speedometer. Everything worked good except the odometer is wrong since you can't change it on the older HDs.
