Last year I ordered a 2016 FXDB with forward controls and made it my own with a few mods. My wife decided that she wanted a bike and liked mine. I told her that she could have it and I would get a 2017 Low Rider S (Probably what I would've got had it been available when I ordered my FXDB).
Now I want to swap the further forward mids and inner/outer primary from the LRS onto her street bob and the forwards & inner/outer primary from the street bob onto the LRS. In my head, it should be a straight forward swap...I'm mechanically inclined and not afraid of tearing into it (with the assistance of the service manual) and have the tools needed.
Is there something obvious I am missing that is going to throw a wrench in this plan?
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
That's a lot of work for new bikes, and unless reversed before selling it would totally trash re-sale value.
When you say you "ordered" the 2016 with forwards did it come from the factory like that or did the dealer make the mod? Did they swap out the inner at that time?
If the dealer did it it may still be set up for mid's, and the only change needed will be adding forwards to the Low.
Why not just sell or trade the 2016 and get bikes configured the way you want?

Yes...my fxdb came with forwards (as I ordered it).
As far as being lots of work...that's what winter is for Isn't it all about making the bike your own? (I know I'm not the only one that put forwards on a new LRS.)
If, down the road I do have trouble selling them as I configure them, I could always put things back.
I'm currently in the process of ditching my forward controls for mids and the job is tedious but doable.
FYI: go ahead and order the Bung King shift linkage for swapping out the OEM...it isn't very sturdy and has shown corrosion at the joints in about 8k miles. It'll cost you $40 and worth it.
