I see so many people buy brand new bikes and have thousands of dollars worth of parts swapped out within a few hundred miles...or less.
Makes me wonder sometimes if Harley could have/make a market for a sorta "blank slate" model that doesn't ship with the commonly replaced items. No bars, no air cleaner, no exhaust, no wheels, no seat, etc.
I know there would be some legislative and logistics issues but, personally, I would like the idea of saving money on crap I knew I would be tossing anyway.
Thatd be cool, but it'll probably never happen. they make too much money selling you a complete bike, then a **** load of overpriced parts. Plus I don't think there would be enough of a demand for them to justify it. Don't get me wrong I love HD and only buy from the HD dealer. But think how much they make in accessories. 400.00+ bucks for things like a performance air cleaner, a seat, pipes, bars, bags, tuner, etc. and people happily pay it, myself included. They would lose way too much money. I wonder if enough people started callin the moco if they would make something you could special order.

I would like to see a base model Dyna with a factory build option sheet like 1960's american cars, dual disc- check, XR1200 calipers- check, stage three big engine- check, fill the primary with race quality parts- check, final drive ratio options- check, factory seat delete option- check. Well you get the idea...

I wish. Man, those al a carte days are sure long gone. My Vette had power windows, manual brakes, power steering, big block, and am/fm. Somewhere between a stripper and a racer.
