HELP! Cycle Vision Eliminator Tail Light malfunction
As i started using my signals (specifically the left one) I had the red key light come on and stay on for probably 2-3 minutes. When i got to work i looked the bike over, didn't see anything out of ordinary.
On my lunch i plugged in my laptop (Thundermax) to check for any trouble codes, everything came back fine. I went for a 25ish minute ride, didn't have the issue happen.
On my way home, things got worse. Indicator on the dash was flickering the entire time. At times when using the left signal i would get a rapid flashing and the red key light on the dash would light up.
I had my wife follow me in her car and she said the left side of the tail light looked to have been flickering at a rapid rate. I imagine it was the same rate i saw on the dash.
Now whats interesting is this doesn't happen at idle. And usually doesn't happen at a low speed (about 30mph). Once i give it some throttle, left indicator on dash starts going nuts. Also worth noting, the turn signal appears to be working just fine (left and right) while this is happening.
I just went out and found a way to (kind of) to reproduce the issue. All I did was put the bike in gear. Once I do this, the left side light goes out and comes back, simultaneously the left indicator on the dash flickers. I believe this is whats happening while i'm on the highway, just at a much faster pace.
Key take aways here:
- Left turn signal indicate ON DASH is flickering
- The left side of the tail light is also flickering
- The rapid turn signal only happened briefly and was ONLY the left side (NEVER happened on the right side!)
- Load equalizer is installed (provided by CV, big and yellow. Not the small black one that comes with the kit. This is what they said to use.)
I emailed them earlier today when i got to work, no response. I'm going to try and call tomorrow morning. If anyone has any ideas on this though i'd love to hear it.
P.S. I unplugged everything and plugged back in to ensure no loose wires. I even swapped out the yellow (bigger) load equalizer for the smaller black one. Issue persists.
Or perhaps the insulator on the "hot" wire for that turn signal may have somehow worn through so that it is shorting?
Since you tried swapping out the load equalizers, the only other thing I could think of would be the eliminator itself has developed a fault.
Good luck, let us know what you find!
