You can remove it after flashing a new map or auto tune or leave it connected and monitor various things. It's fine tucked in the cover, no mount required. It's very light.

I added the matrix connector for constant hot and switched power, this ends up under the seat once plugged in so that's where my FP3 rides when I have it attached to the bike

I used some Velcro and attached it to the back of the side cover. No reason not to leave it hooked up all the time. It's there if you need it, or want to look into anything. It's not like you can use it for anything else when it's not hooked up.

mine sits in its presentation box and doubles as a paperweight on my computer desk

I have a 2013 Sportster 1200 Custom. I managed once to get the FP3 inside the cover and forcing the cover shut. The other place I am trying is straped to the rear brake line. Any other suggestions? Pictures plese.
