Got Lucky
The loop that I decided on is just over 150 miles and very rural but there was a C store and gas station at around 100 miles so no problem.
At about 80 miles past a small town the low fuel light came on. What! Then about 10 to 12 miles later the low range message appeared. Double what! At that point I'm about 15 miles from the station in a head wind. Yikes. The place that I am headed to is up a grade of about a half mile. I didn't think I was going to make it and didn't look forward to pushing the bike let alone up a hill.
I slowed down to 50 and just keep going. The needle was hard on E for some time. I expected to feel it start missing at any point. But it ran until I pulled up to the pump.
When I fueled it up it stopped at 4.0 even. I was surprised since usually when the low fuel light comes on on the other bikes there always has been at 1 gallon left.
Has anyone else had the low fuel light that pessimistic?
Glad that I didn't need to push it. About seven years ago when I was fishing the battery went dead in a Buell Ulysses. Pushed it two miles into town but the road was flat and the Uly is about 150 lbs lighter than the Dyna.
I like my other (old BMW airhead) bike's system, a two-position fuel tap with a 100km reserve. Can't go wrong.

Usually I or my wife have to stop & take a pee and or a drink of water and when I do I make it a habit of being by a gas station or place that sells gas. That's something I won't push my luck for or with. Same with my vehicles. Why?
