maybe dumb question-can you even lean enough to use all of the 180(let alone a 200) without grinding the foot pegs? Besides, I can think of alot of other parts and mods I could really use for the price of the HD wide tire kit hardware.
Um, couple of dumb questions...If you can buy the 180 tire (180/60/17...?) and straight mount it, right on your stock rim, what is the point of the "wide tire kit?" What doesthe kitcome with? What does it do? Is it a different rim?
Say a feller hypothetically didn't care much for the Dunlops...what would stop said-feller from buying a same size tire from an aftermarket manufacturer, bypassing the dealer altogether? Anyone know of any other companies that make the same size tire?

It is my understanding the the Dunlop SE is the only 180 out that will fit the 4.5" rim
just the other day, i put on a dunlop qualifier (180/55). very happy with the performance, it feels like the rear is freakin' GLUED to the street. it has made me realize how CRAPPY the stock tire is. i used to be able to break the rear loose just about any time in second and now, i can hardly do it in a tun in first! in speed turns, you can just feel how much more confident it is. i am pretty much convinced now that the high speed handling quirks that some of us experience (and pass off to the rubbermount set up) is in fact the crappy stock tires.
and i was told a the dealer that the SE 180 is pretty much the same compound as the stocker.......hard.
i was told that this will last longer than the Pilot but a few other things the guy said lead me to believe that he may be full of shitte. i am finding out that this thing is really a track tire so i hope i get more than 4k out of it. but it is a dual compound (harder in the middle) and i got 11k out of the stocker and i wasn't very nice to it.
as for the fender, since it is a lower profile, on this one, the tread wraps around more and the corner/lip is pretty close to the fender. so for good measure, we took off my rear signals and it's nice and smooth, no worries.
now, saturday....off comes the equally crappy front to be replaced with a metzler. it gets a little pushy/squirley in the turns now. i think its the rear over gripping the front and the front pushing a little.
waterman, whats the deal with that tire? I thought we need a bias tire/tube to go with our spoked rim? Also its been said that no other 180 will fit 4.5 rim. The tire you put on is a radial right? are you using a tube? I read elsewhere that someone was using this tire but when I asked around It was said that I cant use the qualifier on the stock spoke rim! Just want to hear from you because Id like to go this route. thanks!!!!
i was unaware of the smaller bead issue on the SE tire untill yesterday. i have seen plenty on this and i'm a little worried but i have also seen where others haven't had any issues.....so....that's kinda where i'm at
don't need the kit. you can go as big as 200 rear tire with no kit. just be sure wiring is secure in clips
You are not gonna get a 200 tire on a stock 06 Dyna.
To put a 200 on you have to as said by another get a rim that is at least 5.5. You will need a new pulley because you will have to go to a 20mm drive belt to get the tire clearance. Stock belt is 30mm I believe, at least my Dyna is.
That 200 kit at hog pro is over $1400. It includes the items mentioned above.
The wide tire kit is nothing but low profile fender braces, a few tyraps and the 180 tire. My Dyna already had the braces on that are in the kit.

I just got the SE 180 on my bike last weekend - no kit. Basically all the kit does is secure your wiring under the fender so it doesn't rub the tire. If you have the detachable backrest kit with the rear signal relocation kit on it, it seems to pull the wires well out of the waywithout the kit. You certainly do not need to change your fender or struts. Worse case, let them install the kit. However, if you are satisfied that the wires are securely out of the way, you can simply fit the SE 180 on your stock rim and go. The SE 180 is the only 180, however, that is specifically made for the dyna rear stock rim. Any others may fit funny and not look right (arguable I know). With all that said, however, your dealer may not agree to installing the 180 tire without the kit. I went to an Indy and got him to order the tire and tube and put it on for me and saved a few bucks in the process.
