Default Steering stem fall away instructions?

I've got a 2002 Low Rider and I've been meaning to check the fall away on my neck bearings ever since I put my taller bars and fairing on. I've got a service manual some where but I can't find it. I think my brother may have it but that's besides the point. Has anyone done this before? I can't imagine it's too difficult I just feel like it's something I should do. I feel like the front turns super easy with all the extra weight on there. I know my neck bearings are ok. I checked play in them last year when I rebuilt my forks. I just never got around to checking fall away before I got finished up and started riding.

Your distance is 1-2 inches. All that mass you have with those bars fairing will probably affect it to make it appear less. So shoot for the 2" in my opinion. I usually shoot for the low side. I like it free but of course not with the bearings loose. However, tapered roller bearing are fine even with a .001 play. They do not like preload unless they run in oil. I got that 1-2" from a 2003 Dyna service manual. I assume it correct for you. Get you a dial indicator from Harbour freight since you are so non-OEM and with the front off ground, use the indicator to check for looseness.

get your bike off the ground.. level if possible... most important of course is the front wheel. 5 gallon bucket with a yardstick works great. bucket upside down, yardstick across the top. get your tire set where it won't drop to either side... *centered*.. and tap one side or the other lightly.. enough to make it move maybe 1/8" at a time.. and record where the last tap was that made the wheel fall to the side.

adjustment is loosen your pinch bolt on the steering stem and tighten or loosen the top bolt into your stem depending on if you fall too soon or too late. adjusted?.. tighten your pinch bolt back up.

simplistic, but I think that's how it works on a 2002.

I just tightened it to where I felt it was good then took it for a ride.
