It seems every service center has a different opinion. I'm not so much looking for the power increase as much as just a good sound without being obnoxiously loud. This and other posts are giving suggestions but I would like to know peoples opinions of the safest options. Until the issues are resovled with Harley about what needs to be done, would I be best just to go with the SE II and see how it would run without doing a remap or doing the stage I and getting the remap from the center. Others have suggested to get Powercommanders and what not, but I wouldn't really be comfortable doing this myself and would rather have a center do the work before I purchase the bike.
Just added the SE II slipons to my 06 dyna. Will ride tommorow.I have asked 3 dealers about downloads just for the slipons 2 say I need the down load 1 says I don't . Okay now who is correct here?. Test run on the new slipons followed by checking condition of plugs will hopefully give me a better idea.
I plan to do a SE/AC install in the future. My dealers are telling me I have to install the SE race tuner for $459.00 or the PC III for about $100.00 less. I will not be doing any other engine mods. Does any body know if the SE calibration cartridge #34239-06 will be sufficient for the AC install ?. Thanks for any info.
the thing that blows my mind is that the moco hasn't clarified this with a service bulletin. I mean look how many threads we've had just ourselves here, i'm sure there are hundreds or thousands more out there with '06 dynas with the same question!
I have heard it all on this subject, and I am still confused......I dont want to damage the bike......I dont need more power...I just want it to sound like a Harley!!!! My 1200 sounds great, My new 16000 plus Wide Glide.......Sounds like a honda!!!!!
The Dealers need to all get on line with this, and the MoCO as well. To me it is makeing them all look stupid, because noone agrees on what the hell your supposed to do.
OK, I got the SEII slip on slash cuts, SE A/C, and the down Load. I made the dealer show me. It is a factory download for 2006 Dyna models, called a cartridge. It is only good for one usage. The closed loop system does compensate, but not enough for the changes introduced with the pipes and high flow A/C. The bike will run OK without the D/L, but it will run lean, and may cause damage. The bike runs great, has more pep as all HD's do with the stage one, and sounds great. Not as loud as my 1200 with the full V&H exhaust, but definatly a deeper sound. Definatly what one would expect from a HD before the EPA choked them up. I have put about 200 miles on this set up and it runs Great. The Download was 165 bucks, I think, but worth it in my opinion. Just running down the road worring about running to lean and cooking a valve would bother the hell out of me.
On another note, I also put a Sissy bar on. I have no clue why the MoCo removed it from the WG this year. Regardless, I am now very satisfied with the bike. I know there is a recall on the tranny, and the whole inner bearing thing, but to be honest, its covered by the warranty, and the bike looks and performs great. I love my WG more than evernow, for me, its the best bike in the world. I hope everyone else has good luck with thier stage one upgrades. And as time goes by, more and more options will become available.
Good deal! I thought you would like it. As you know, I've got the exact same setup (except a fxdci) and the seII's are a huge improvement over the stock mufflers.
And it might be my imagination, but I think the sensors have compensated for the initial slight loss of torque i noticed when I first swapped mufflers. (i swapped mufflers several months after the stage 1 and download was installed)
The 06 Dyna can take the SE Air filter without the download. The ecm will compensate for the added air flow.
The difference is when you add the pipes and reduce the backpressure. The air flow increases even more. The ecm will not keep up with the compensation through out the rpm range.
There are points that will run lean. And a lean running engine has the potential to burn valves.
So if you just do the pipes or the air filter you are probably ok. But if you do both then it is time to hack the ecm.
You will benefit from a power increase as well as keeping your HOG happy.
i bought an 06 dyna for a testbed because our engines will have to meet epa for 07. we will have to move to injection to accomplish this and i have done testing on the dyna for 3 months now.
the bike is lean from the factory! modifying the mufflers alone putit in the danger zone as the ecm is only capable of a very narrow learning range. instant flat sound, flat spots and very lean plug readings.
i woldn't even ride it until i installed the thundermax.
next came the air cleaner, screamin eagle backing plate, k-n filter and 7 inch round cover, adusted fuel tables and timing and bike runs great with almost perfect plug readings. still testing!
remember this----- the downloads are lean also as they too have to be epa compliant.
if you do the download on a stock bike, it is enough to bring you into the safe range.
we are at see level so YMMV.
I'm going with a 1550 kit, the air cleaner kit, and the SEII slip ons.
Looks like the posts here around inquiries to their dealers have slip-ons and air cleaner only as possibly needing, or benefitting from, a remap.
My dealer is recommending the Techlusion unit, which is what I'm doing. I'm guessing that the closed loop system can accomodate the sli-ons and air cleaners, but if you go to big bore kits, cam, etc - the Techlusion kit will do some real good.
