Default Fork seals

I noticed a little black residue on the fork after a ride. Is that a indicator the the seal in going bad or normal wear? And if it is bad what is the usual cost for a rebuild?

The seal's rubber, is it rubber residue? When was the last time you changed the fork oil?

Prior to rebuilding..., get one of these..., or make one out of an old credit (thin plastic) card or milk jug

Then run it around the fork - between the fork and seal

May cure it without a rebuild

http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nk...+SEALS+CLEANER

================

Actual rebuild - less than $100 bucks - if

You do it yourself..., you already have the tools - otherwise it closer to 250 / 300 when buying the tools and service manual

Dealer rebuild - no clue (always best to dyi imo)

eta

The black - could be dry rotted rubber - could be the oil (it gets rather dirty / black).., then again..., could be who knows what

Good Option to try first although changing Fork Oil is not a bad idea either ..
