The Wide Glide is in the shop. Driving to the dealership to get a service manual of all things and she starts surging. There is a pop, the bike jumps forward and the speedo drops to 0 then pops back up to 50. This is when accelerating. When I decel, she just stalls. I have to pull in the clutch and then start it while rolling at 50 mph. This (stalling) happened 5 times on the way to the dealership. When I got there they said that they have no idea what is going on. They will have to loot at it tomorrow. So, no bike until tomorrow at the earliest. Only mods I have done are a tank lift (Jackyl's), run/turn/brake mod on the rear signals, Kuryakyn side plate with tail light/brake light, new pegs and grips (tested the throttle, its fine), and took off the tail light. Bike was running good for 2 days after the latest mods, so I am at a loss. Have to see what they come back with in the morning. I miss her already.
Had the same thing happen... also ended up being the battery cable; neg to be exact. Put a couple drops of loctite on the bolt and haven't had it happen since; about a year now.
Well, with all the electrical I have been doing on the bike, I have taken that cable off and put it back on at least 10 times. I hope that you are all right. I guess we will find out today. On another note, when I dropped it off, I told the mechanic about the clunk in the front end when I stop and when I hit a bump. He said that all Wide Glides do that and Harley can't explain why. I was hoping for a better explanation. Anyone know the cause and is there a fix? If there is nothing seriously wrong with the bike I can live with it, but it is very annoying.
Mine did the same thing.....loose ground cable on the battery......speedo would drop to zero and the vibration of the road would make just enough connection to make it fire and miss until it died completely again......figured it out just before taking it in to the shop, cussing "the pos newfangled efi computer the whole time"

Yes, it's called "The Dyna Thunk" or some such. There are several posts here about it. Has to do with tightening the front fork nut. Mine does it also but I just ignore it, for the most part.
Well, it was a loose neg. cable on the battery. Turns out when I added the run/turn/stop module for the rear signals the neg. cable came loose. Would have been the first thing I checked, but I was on the road. Looks like I need to put together a tool bag. You guys were on the money. The funny thing: no more clunk in the front end. Rode it 40 miles today without a single clunk. Weird.
