I bought my FXD in 2004 and had my dealer install a SE exhaust with a rejet and a K&N air filter. I decided to upgrade to Vance & Hines slipons. The dealer told me I would have to rejet my carb. NOT TRUE... I installed the slipons myself and found I have way more power and a smoother idle with very little poppingduring down shifting, and no adjustment to the carb. The bike just runs a lot better...Not to mention the sound quality. I am running the quiet baffles. They sound mean as He!! at an idle and are anything but quiet through the gears. moral to the story..as we all know....Don't trust your dealer with everything. They will take your money for nothing.....
Just keep an eye on the temperature. Check your plugs and make sure that they aren't indicating lean. Most of the time you'll be fine just swapping exhaust while using a stock air cleaner, but there are the couple percent that should rejet or retune.

Chances are that when you had the dealer dothe initial rejet back in 2004 for the HD SE exhaust and K&N Filter the dealer put in larger jets which are close to what you need with the V&H's - maybe not perfect but close - especially with the quite baffles which restrict flow a little. As was suggested I'd keep an eye on the engine temps and check the plugs or, if you feel ambitious, change the jets yourself to get it just right! It's not a very difficult thing to do.
Did you have SE or SEII to begin with? I think I'm getting too much popping with my SEII, but they do sound Hella good!
Plus the dealer is always.....always.....going to error on the fat side. You're probably closer to a better air/fuel ratio, butI'm guessingthe popping was in the pipes and the pipes only.
