I don't know if it would work backwards, but when I was running no rear signals I left the front on and they would work as long as the wire ends don't short out.

If you take the bulbs out of the front blinkers do the rears work?

They just come on but don't flash/blink if that makes sense.

You will need the equivalent resistor of the two bulbs. They sell a plug and play model. And stock up on life insurance and a plot.

That last sentence makes all to much sense.

I like everyone's concern but this is a temporary fix until my new ones get here this week. Also just trying to learn more of how this bike ticks. So you know what they say about opinions...

Non ECM/EFI/ECU... whatever acronym you want to call it, utilize what they have in the auto industry for years, which is a bi-metalic strip. When you turn on your turn signal, current runs through the strip and the metals expand at different rates, which cause that piece to bend.. so it bends away from the contacts, breaks the circuit - current stops, the strips cool off, bend back (memory metals...etc) and make contact again. The speed of which causes the turnsignals to go on, go off, go on, go off... and you can hear that bimetalic piece making the click sound.

By removing a device (front turn signal) from the circuit you either don't pull enough juice through the bimetalic piece to make it move (no turn signal on the rear) or, what you see most often in cars, is the dang thing moving only just barely enough break the contact (not very hot) and so it cools just as fast... which we see as a really fast, and not very bright, turn signal.

The afore mentioned ECM/EFI/ECU's of today's machines, actually measure the current draw on any given circuit and determine the fault... and why when you put LED lights on your bike (mid ECM/EFI/ECU era) you needed a load resister to facilitate extra current draw.

Modern ECM/EFI/ECU's can now be programmed or have a 'learn' mode, to know what circuit draws correct current, and store than info.

There's some 'ticks' for ya.

Default Not sure if it is different

I removed my front signals from my 2012 FXDC to clean up the front. I just unplugged mine from under the tank and removed it all. My rear signal blinks a little faster than normal but not much. I have had no issues with those coming toward me knowing if I am going to turn or not. If I'm in a turn lane of course I'm going to turn. If I'm sitting at a stop sign then the other drivers know who has the right of way.

I've not made funeral arrangements nor have I purchased a plot. Actually I have had no more close calls than i had prior to removing them.

Thank you. Not saying I want to be unsafe (I have 2 kids under 2 right now) but would like a temp fix to an ugly problem. I think if I was in LA I could see the concern but living in the sticks like I do a week or too of riding which is realistically a couple rides isn't a big deal.
