Default Hard Starting

My Wide Glide is a 2014 that I bought new in May of 2015. The battery is original. I went to start it the other week and no go. VINEER on the display and no start. It appeared the battery had plenty of steam for the lights though. I tried again a few minutes later and even though it was tough, it finally started. I rode for 50 miles and then parked it with my battery tender. I rigorously have the tender on the battery all the time and it appears to be working.

After 5 days I went to start it and again a very hard start but after some groaning it did finally start. I will take the battery to have it tested, but does 3yrs lifespan for the battery seem right? 1 year sitting on a showroom floor and then 2 years running with battery charge maint being applied??

As I said, I will have the battery checked, but do I have a concern with the charging system?

Appreciate any comments.
Bob

These HD/Deka batteries are really hit and miss; my last Deka only lasted 15 months, and it was always kept on a Battery Tender.

You can check your battery voltage yourself. After it's been on the Battery Tender remove it for 12 - 24 hours, then check the voltage.

12.8v is 100% charged
12.6v is about 75% charged
12.3v is about a 50% charge
12.0v is 25% or less charge

I've moved on to the Yuasa GYZ20HL; I've never had any sort of battery problems with my sport bikes running Yuasa batteries. The Yuasa along with Terry Components 4 gauge battery cables spin up my Wide Glide quicker than I've ever heard; the OEM battery cables are 6 gauge.

The HD/Deka battery is 310 CCA and 17.5 Ah, the Yuasa is 320 CCA and 20 Ah; the Yuasa GYZ20HL is the highest rated AGM battery that will fit in the Dyna's battery box.

Well played! I doubt you've got a charging system issue, I suspect your battery has shuffled off the mortal coil. That Yuasa is a great battery; I'm not the only one using it on the forum who's noticed how much faster it will spin up the engine.

I took his advice from another post. After starting issues with my LRS and 8 mo battery. Go with the yuasa 320 cca. Youll be glad you did.

The last time I had a similar problem, both battery terminals had vibrated loose. Tightened them and problem went away.
