Want to know if I can SAFELY fit a 150 tire on the rear wheel of my LRS. My concern is that the wheel may be too wide for the 150. I may have to go to a 170 as a last resort. Unfortunately the tread pattern I want does not come in 160.

I would check with the specific tire manufacturer, but generally a 150/60-17 or 150/70-17 are among the recommended sizes for a 17x4.5 rim
What specific tire are you looking at?
I don't think a lot of manufactures offer those sizes in a cruiser tire (Michelin Scorcher 11 Radials are one, but i would check on the Load Rating)
.

So you're saying the LRS rear wheel is 4.5 wide? Just knowing how wide the wheel is would be a great help! Thanks!
I ran a 170 on my 4.5" rim for years.... exactly what tread style are you looking for?.. gotta be associated with a certain vendor .. right?
Looking at adventure touring tread; about a 50/50 but no less than a 70/30 road/off road. Looking at heading up to Dawson City for the Dust to Dawson ride next summer. Yeah, I know the LRS ain't no adventure tourer, but it'll be close after I'm done with it. After spending 35 years in Alaska, I know what to expect up in that area. Hey, if it was easy anybody could do it!!
110/80-19 at front
150/70-17 at rear ( or a 170/70-17 )
According to Ridewright wheel/tire fitments.. a 150 should ride on a 4.5 rim with no problem. I know the 170 will... I ran 170 on my rear 4.5 for a number of years.. zero issues.
Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR looks favorable.. but looking at a 120 up front, which 'has' been done on a stock 19" rim... but that may be pushing it.. and not sure I would do that much 'overlap' for a dual-sport tire.

Yeah, 120 is more that I would go; 110 would probably work. I've gotta be mindful of the load ratings and don't want to mix bias and radial either.
