Don`t ignore this warning.

Some models do not have dowel pins between the inner primary cover and the transmission case, 2006 Dyna had a lot of issues with inner primary cover to transmission case alignment.
Seen 2 broken primaries because the owners misused that tool and popped a chunk out or cracked them.

They do not work fine on some models, that is why there is a warning not to use them in some service manuals.

It is not a one tool fits all.

That's what I was trying to say. Only to be used on the primary chain (not on a primary belt, if converted) for the compensator and clutch hub nuts, not the front drive pulley. The bar between the sprocket teeth is better, but I've used these this way (on big twin and sportster) and it worked ok. First time I used one, expected the sprocket teeth to chew through it, but they hardly marked it. They should come with a warning not to use on belts, or wedged against the case.

The wedge is not to be used on certain models on the primary chain, telling people it is ok is bad information.

The OP has one of the models affected.

We are clearly talking about primary chains here, not primary belts.

The service manual is the information that should be followed, not looking to argue with anyone, just trying to give the OP the correct information.

If the manual said not to use it on my model, I wouldn't, either. Always good to check the manual.

Appreciate all the good advice and inputs. I do, unfortunately, have one of those years that is a problem.

I recently used a plastic cam locking tool... I made it work, but it was definitely "single use..." By the time I was done, many of it's teeth were ground down, and I had to be careful to make sure no debris ended up anywhere it shouldn't have...

I'm guessing the HD warning about plastic locking blocks is related...
