Test Rode a Switchback
My ride is a 2000 Heritage.
Susp was really good (I thought)
Brakes, frt-no better than mine, The rear was better.
Handling, WOW!! Like a rail!!
Pretty comfortable too. the boards are a little higher than
mine, but no big deal.
The 103? Not that impressed. I expected more low end power.
It had some goofy muffler with a little 1" outlet.
I'm sure with the right exh & A/Clnr and the correct tune, it would
be a rocket ship.
I could just never find the sweet spot.
5th or 6th & 65-70 mph there was vibration.
I know there's a fix, bit it was there. Not bad for the 15 min I was on
it, but all day? No way. No where NEAR as smooth as the Heritage.
Overall, pretty nice .
Love the looks!! The wheels . . . Eeeeh.
what we really love about it is it's great in town, and good on the interstate. Love the hard bags, and love the option to strip it down. You are correct about one thing...... wheels are ugly like a week full of Mondays!
-I would have bought one in 2013
-It wouldn't have been discontinued
Oh well, maybe the new FXDXT is going to be announced for 2018. All will be forgiven.
with em OR given em the treatment that new
Road King Special got.
They'd have sold tons more.
One thing I forgot to mention; The windshield. This one had
a taller one on it. LOTS of turbulence from below. WAY worse
than mine.
So that would be a problem. Maybe easy to fix.
edit: I forgot to add, everything remained quick detach including the lowers so I could strip it down to a bare bike in about 5 minutes
I, and my wife, both have them (hers is red, mine is blue). They make a great all around bike doing a lot of things well, solo touring, in town, highway, etc. The suspension is unique to the Dyna's. One fork has a damper and the other has a cartridge. Also, they are 41mm forks vs. the 49mm forks of the other Dynas.
I happen to really like the wheels. Reminds me a 70's hot rod Kraeger rim, or Steve McQueen in Bullitt.

You did a nice job with that !!!
Something else. I felt really comfortable
on the Switchback right out of the shoot. Very at ease with it.
I'm always a little leery when I get on a bike heavier than my
Heritage (They're always taller & wider too) So the Switchback
being lighter . . . W'HOOO!!!!
In fact the Heritage felt like a tank for the 1st few minutes
after riding the Switchback.
