Default Horn Question

Very seldom use the horn on on '06 Low Rider.

Hit the button yesterday to let a cager know that his pulling out from a side street in the path of my bike was unaccepable. Horn sounded like a muffled goose. Hit it a few more times and only sounded loud onceout of 4 or 5 tries.

Bringing it in to dealer on Thursday.

Common deal with the stock horns?

Thanks,
Sammi

you might want to look at this air horn. when I had my sportster it was a direct replacment and it was LOUD. if you run it with the provided relay to the battery it is even louder. You can cover the ugly logo with a Harley badge.

Local dealer can't get me in Thursday after all - next available appt is 3 weeks out

Might buy an aftermarket horn, but want to get this one working in the meantime.

Plan on taking of the cover, spray with canned air, and take a look if anything looks screwed up.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Sammi

There is probably an adjustment screw on the back of the horn. Back that out a small bit at a time and then try the horn. See if this helps. The other thing is that bugs may have nested in there and in that case you'll need to get the crap out.

Took a can of compressed air and cleaned out the horn.

Works fine now.

(No duct tape, black magic marker, or twine needed)

Yeah it's a good idea to just lay into the horn at least once a week...I prefer about 3am Sunday morning...The neighbors just LOVE IT...

I've found that I get better results from a quick clutch in andblip of the throttle. The stock horn is "wimpy" and my Rineharts are much more effective at getting attention.
