I installed V&H 3" slash slip-ons to my fxdls. I wanted to annoy people and give the finger to the oppressive regime of CA. I already had that cone super sucker intake on the bike. I dont have an engine light or decel pop. Do I need the V&H tuner like V&H and Revzilla claim?
Check your plugs, that will tell you if running lean
He's already running lean from the factory. However, checking your plugs is the way to verify. You want a light brown on the center ceramic insulator, ideally. Anything lighter is running leaner... if they are white-ish, ash-ish... you need to get a bit more fuel into your motor.
The short answer is very likely. I ran mine without one for awhile and I had a flat spot in the high rpm range that made the valves chatter on hard acceleration. After I put my PCV, it was gone and ran like a scalded dog.
yeah it sucks but you should probably plan on coughing up the $315 for a FP3 unless you plan on selling it soon. I had the same setup as you, give it a while youll prob notice popping on decel going downhills soon if you dont now, plus youll prob notice your burning your leg off cause the engine is running hot. As soon as i got my FP3 the bike ran better, lower idle, no more pop on decel and no more hard starts (once it got hot it use to have a hard time starting...now it dont because the engine is running cooler). I say it sucks cause its alot of $$ and you cant buy them used (well you can but dont, they mirror to one bike) and youd think a bike would run like it should out of the factory....nope.
