I was curious is anyone else was having problems with paint chips. I have an '07 Bob with a limited paint set, not really happy with
the quality of the paint. It seems to chip fairly easily. I have only put 2600 highway miles on and have several pretty bad chips.
Since the paint is custom I can't get anyone to "touch it up". Any input would be great.
I know of a guy that bought one of the limited sets for his Road King. He had paint troubles. It started cracking and coming off in places. His investigation revealed that HD, at least at the time, didn't do the numbered custom sets. They farmed them out to other shops. His paint set was about 2 years old when it happened. The MoCo did not stand behind their product. They offered him no compensation.
I am having this problem with my 06 wideglide. It is the special paint also (scarlet red/grey). It is chipping where the tank bolts are located. I plan on asking the dealer about it this weekend. Anyone know if this should be a warranty issue? I bought the bike in August 06.
KSBOBBER, That is the reason old Street Rods had "flames" painted on them in the first place: to cover paint chips. That way they didn't have to repaint the whole car
Flames were functional as much as cosmetic.
I have to believe you can find a local painter that can scuff the tank, fix the chips and lay some ghost flames or blend flames into the paint. Then they justre-clear the tank with a good quality clear.
Any good painter / body shop - or even the Dealer should be able to do this.
Good Luck DD
To keep them cherry - paint it, park it...
