My Thoughts 2018
dig the head light disslike the fat front tire
I think its great that HD is committing to the M8 platform and plowing ahead much like they did with the twin cam 17-18 years ago.... if it was junk they would not run it, warranty expenses and bad press would not be worth the risk
just my thoughts
With that said they destroyed the Street bob. It looks horrible and I don't like the modern twist on the Deluxe or the super old school syle Harleys. The Fatboy always was modern to me so improving on that only made it better. Not so much the others.
Anyways, now buying a softail as a second bike is out of the question for me.
If the goal is performance then HD is still behind. Put fat bob and vmax side by side. If you want performance who would pay more to take the Bob?
I have an idea (maybe) more positive reviews might start
rolling in after some demo-rides (I would hope)
After I calmed down I realized that the Motor Company had done what most of us here on the Dyna page have been doing for years. We make them Faster, upgrade the Suspension and Brakes to create a bike each of us desire.
Putting aside all the Dyna vs Softail banter.... this new (to Harley) monoshock design, lighter weight , more power, more cornering clearance etc, etc.. should make this the best performance enthusiast Harley ever.
Harley had to do something to stay relevant in today's market and get the new generation interested in Our Brand... Maybe this will help. If it does I'm all for it.
For all the purists out there that think H-D sold their soul... well I can relate. All the FXR guys thought the same thing years ago. But you know, you guys are still building the FXR's into bikes that are better than they ever were and you cant swing a dead can without hitting at least 5 or 6 used Dynas on the first page of Craigs List. So we will have plenty of Real Harley's to turn into our latest visions for years to come.
As far as the looks of the new bikes.... I'm Diggin most of it, some of it not so much. (See Fat Boy headlight) Meh...
I love my FatBob and not gettin rid of it, and the new model is defiantly growin on me. But if ya squint real hard and look at both bikes I think with about $10,000 more in upgrades I might be able to perform as good as the new Fat Bob. Ha ha ha.....just my opinion guys. Thanks for readin..
Yep, told my brother this exact same thing.
I think the new bikes are fine. People are just resistant to change. I mentioned in another post, about when people lost their **** over going from the blonde motor to black. lol It's the same thing every time something different comes out.
Although, I would have prefered them to just drop the Dyna names altogether. Kinda weird keeping them.

Resisting to change is more relevant to businesses, not consumers. Businesses are the ones that adjust to consumer demands, no matter how primary or advanced. If there is demand, there is a market.
Blockbuster video rentals were wiped out because they could not figure out how to change, so when other businesses such as Red Box and Netflix showed up they had no chance of survival. In this case, consumers would also change their habits of how they rent movies because it was more convenient.
But sometimes the consumer demands and taste remains the same, and so does the product. Look at Jeep Wrangler. The overall look and feel of Jeep has stayed the same for decade after decade because the fans of this particular model demand it. They care less about speed, or acceleration or torque than how it fits their life style or how it projects it.
Could one go to these buyers and tell them they are resistant to change because now there are Porsche Cayennes and BMW X5s in the market?
No, why would they. Jeep just keeps producing more Wranglers.
Quite similarly, HD has its own fan base. The ones that love the brand because it fits their life style or fits the way they enjoy riding a motorcycle. But in HD's case, unfortunately, there isnt a large enough fan base to produce enough profits. So they are left with only one option: Finding a new fan base.
Steve Jobs once said consumers dont know what they want until you show them. For those who fit into this category the 2018 lineup can be an option.
For the rest who know exactly what they want there are Jeep Wranglers and Dynas.

Honestly, I'm not really feeling the styling of any of the 18's though. Glad I bought a 16' and will be able to ride it a long *** time.
